Carl smith guitar11/4/2023 His wife, Haley Brown, is a business law professor at the university and an attorney, and they live in Starkville with their daughter. Smith enjoys playing guitar and watching MSU sports in his spare time. As a student, he led The Reflector, the university’s student-led newspaper. Before that, he served as a journalist for seven years with the Magee Courier-Simpson County News, Starkville Daily News and Commercial Dispatch, and reported on local government, economic development and education. The Indianola native previously served his alma mater as an editor and managing editor for the Research and Curriculum Unit, where he promoted career and technical education to a statewide audience for the Mississippi Department of Education for almost five years. In his role, he writes news releases and features about Mississippi State University’s many students, faculty, staff and programs, and assists with the unit’s social media efforts.
